Route Setters

Nathan “NattyGray”
(Routesetting Manager)

Since May 2007
NathanHeight: 6’1″
Weight: 175
Ape Index: even
Climbing Since: 2002
Setting Since: 2006
Climbing Style: Up?
Setting Philosophy: Take holds off the wall, put clean ones back on (preferably fresh shapes of matching color and origin). It better look as good as it climbs.
Jamie “G-Child”
(RJ1 Head Routesetter / Instructor)

Since September 2011
JamieHeight: 5’7″
Weight: 132
Ape Index: Even
Climbing Since: 2004
Setting Since: 2010
Climbing Style: Overhanging with a rope. Rifle, Red River Gorge, etc…
Setting Philosophy: I try to mimic the outdoor experience as much as possible. Footholds are usually plentiful and I try not to set awkward movement. I strive to make the climber move naturally on the walls.
Keith “North Side”
(RJ2 Head Routesetter / Instructor)

Since June 2011
KeithHeight: 5’8″
Weight: 130
Ape Index: +1
Climbing Since: 2006
Setting Since: 2010
Climbing Style: Routes, the longer and steeper the better.
Setting Style: I try to set routes that climb very smoothly, creating an enjoyable path for the climber to follow to the top of the wall. I attempt to emphasize technical ability above pure brute strength and put a kibosh on “reachy” moves.
Tim “Tic Tac” (RJ1 Youth Program Director / Routesetter)
Since December 2011
TimHeight: 5′ 10.5″
Weight: 160
Ape Index: +1.5″
Climbing Since: 2001
Setting Since: 2002
Setting Philosophy: I take one of two approaches; I have a particular movement and grade that I want to convey, or I find a collection of holds and let them speak to me. I prefer to give you a bad or small foot for movement than a better hand hold, so that you have to think about how to move between the grips.
Clay “Claytron”
(Routesetter / Instructor)

Since November 2014
Height: 6′ 0″
Weight: 175
Ape Index: +1″
Climbing since: 2007
Setting since: 2009
Climbing Style: I enjoy anything from technical slab to overhung and powerful.
Setting philosophy: The flow of the route is most important. Each movement should lead into the next fluidly while keeping the climber engaged from bottom to the top.
Mimi “Wall Witch”
(Routesetter / Instructor)

Since March 2015
Height: 5′ 3″
Ape Index: +1.5″
Climbing since: 2010
Setting since: 2014
Climbing Style: Teeny tiny holds and static movements. Too many lock offs.
Setting philosophy: I just want to set interesting movements and routes/problems that you have to think about.
Augy “Augnacious”
(Routesetter / Instructor)

Since May 2015
Height: 5′ 7″
Ape Index: +2″
Climbing since: 2004
Setting since: 2004
Climbing Style: I try to be as well rounded as possible, but I tend to do better on crimps.
Setting philosophy: Be creative without tricking anyone.

Kegan “Doughboy”
(Routesetter / Instructor)

Since November 2015
Height: 5′ 11″
Weight: 149, 152 after lunch
Ape Index: +3″
Climbing since: 2003
Setting since: 2008
Climbing Style: I like good holds with hard moves, crimp or sloper ladders don’t appeal to me, I want to do some moves.
Setting Philosophy: If you set it, they will come. if it looks good, they will stay.
Taylor “White Cheddar”
(Routesetter / Instructor)

Since December 2013
Height: 6′ 3″
Weight: 185
Ape Index: Even
Climbing since: 2011
Setting since: 2016
Climbing Style: Cashmere sweater and a nice pair of slacks. If it’s warm out, I go for the deep v-neck and sandal-boots (bandals). I really enjoy all styles of climbing and try to include a variety into my sessions.
Setting Philosophy: Make it fun, make it flow, make it fire!
Isaiah “Zayman”
(Routesetter / Instructor)
